Pastry Chef David Benton

Pastry Chef David Benton is a self-taught pastry chef who stumbled upon baking in a random culinary class while trying to be a chef and never forgot the impact it made on him.   With only youtube tutorials and baking books to guide him, David spent the next 2 years perfecting recipes and teaching himself the art of baking and designing.  Baking quickly became a serious passion and a real source of fun for David.  Sugarsweet Cookie + Cake Studio started off simply as a project to keep him baking in-between jobs, but through word of mouth, Sugarsweet has become a popular spot for beautiful and delicious sweet treats.

Colorful and playful with modern pop culture touches are his design trademarks.  His influences are past & present leaders in fashion, music and film.  He has been featured in magazines like Cuisine Noir, Basil, Modern Flavor and Munaluchi Bride.  His work has been shown and reviewed on blogs like 100 Layer Cake and Bay Area Food Critics and he has been interviewed on numerous online radio programs.   He’s made fresh berry tarts for actor Danny Glover, baked Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s birthday cake and made campaign cakes for various bay area politicians.  He’s also worked in the kitchen with Top Chef Just Desserts contestant Erika Davis and celebrity chef G. Garvin.

Delicious sweets from Sugarsweet is sure to bring a smile to your lips and a wow factor that will keep people talking. Pastry Chef David Benton currently resides in Oakland, California and is working towards building the cake studio of his dreams!
